My husband and I are night and day different when it comes to our kitchen cleanup style. I do the majority of the cooking & kitchen cleanup so it’s usually not an issue. If he is cooking, I try to go about my business in other areas of the house so I don’t feel the need to “correct” him. On shared-kitchen occasions (such as last night) it tends to cause a bit of tension.
He turns the entire room into an absolute disaster area and prefers to leave the mess until after we eat. Measuring cups and other prep-ware remain scattered about. Containers of food (except refrigerator goods) stay out and opened. Packaging from used products litters the counter top.
I clean as I go. All prep dishes go directly into the dishwasher when I finish with them. Recyclables are rinsed and put in the bin. Trash is thrown away. Boxed or bagged foods are sealed up and put back in their homes.
He says my style feels frantic and makes him nervous. I say his style makes it hard to enjoy the meal because I’m preoccupied with what needs to be done to cleanup afterward.
